Hi, I am Walter

Could there be a link between natural sciences and storytelling?

My intuition says so.

With my career path, I'm trying to find out.

Viaggio nella natura

I'm 36 years old. I was born in a town of the Italian Alps. As a boy I dreamed of embracing a nomadic lifestyle in modern society. Why not doing it during with an international university education?

So, studying geology and working as a researcher, I lived in five countries: Italy, Spain, France, Holland, England. I have stayed for a few months in the United States and Australia. Throughout the years, geological fieldwork has taken me to many remote places around the world. I was on track to become a university professor until I realised that, deep down, I wanted to spend my time to create an artistic product. I quit my job to read and study philosophy, literature, cinema.

Until one day I came up with an idea to put all my passions together with the Adagio project.

My experience

Geologist

I was educated in the universities of Bologna, Granada and Marseille. I worked in Utrecht and Royal Holloway university of London. For my PhD, I joined a team funded by the EU to study the impact of the ancient straits of Gibraltar on local and global climate. My research interest has been the interaction between tectonic uplift and sedimentological processes.

I supervised students, prepared guest lectures and talks, organised international conferences and post-conference field trips.

Writer

I’ve studied literature and the art of storytelling for more than ten years. I completed several courses and workshops in both English and Italian; my stories have taken the shape of novels, short stories and screenplays.

In 2021, a story of mine entitled "Isole nella memoria" won the first prize of the Umberto Fracchia literary competition and was later published by the Divergenze publishing house.

Traveller on foot

Exploring the world on foot with a sleeping bag and a travel notebook has long fascinated me. I travelled on foot in five different continents.

Cammino Adagio is my experiment at being a walking writer narrating the stories hidden in the landscape while exploring the link between geology and human beings.
